Mason Plays Final Game
Bethel Park, PA - May 12 - The Matt Mason era at Bethel Park came to an end today with a 14-6 WPSLA South Division win over University (WV). Mason will undergo surgery next Wednesday to repair a broken bone in his foot that has plagued him all season. He will miss Bethel's final two games and and potential playoff games.
Mason injured his foot in the persuasion and has been battling pain and discomfort all year. With 5 goals and an assist in today's game, Mason brings his season totals to 50 goals and 10 assists. The 50 goals and the 60 points are both Bethel Park season records. Mason also holds Bethel's career records for goals (89) and points (118). Mason was a member of the 1996 NJLA team, an all star in 1997 and 1998 and a three year starter.
Mason's injury brings to four the total of starters Bethel Park has lost during the 1999 season. Also ailing are Dan Bretthole, Sr M (torn ligaments in foot-missed last 5 games), Andy Schuster, Jr. A (bad back-out for the season after the first game), and Jr. D Brad Czanecki (bruised knee on Saturday- out indefinitely). This rash of injures has put a tremendous strain on an already young team. With Mason now gone, the team will look to Sr A Bryan Colligan ( 38g 17a) and Soph M Jason Dawson (10g 17a). Dawson has taken over Mason's spot as first line face-off midfielder.
Despite the injures and Bethel's youth (5 Seniors and 4 Juniors among 20 varsity players), Bethel Park has forged a 7-7 record and a probable playoff spot. The Matt Mason era has come to a close. The future is now. - Ken Sines, Coach - Bethel Park

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Jan. 20 - Under the direction of new Head Coach, Roland Gagne’, the Upper St.Clair Boy’s Lacrosse Team will kick off the 1999 season as a co-host for the first annual “South of the Burgh Lacrosse Invitational.”  The tournament, founded to showcase Pittsburgh area schools, will take place on March 20 and 21 at Upper St. Clair and Mt. Lebanon High Schools.  Local teams from USC, Mt. Lebanon, Sewickley Academy and Franklin Regional, will compete against nationally ranked opponents from the Columbus and Philadelphia areas.  The weekend will bring over 250 scholar-athletes to our town for two days of intense competition with an opportunity for an evening to interact with peers over dinner. The Panthers look forward to showing a little  "South of the Burgh" hospitality.

The official 1999 season will begin in earnest for the young Panthers in late March.  Led by senior captains Mike May, Ben Miller, Chonny Hartwig and Brian Glaister, the team looks forward to a challenging schedule featuring the most competitive opponents in the Western Pennsylvania region.  A fast paced 16 game schedule is in store for the spring with the goal of reaching the Western Pennsylvania Scholastic Lacrosse Association Championship game in June.  A long term goal is to represent the region in the first ever Pennsylvania Schoolboy Lacrosse Championship game scheduled for June of 2000.

Through the efforts of dedicated parents, supportive local and school administrators, committed coaches and the athletes themselves, the USC Boys Lacrosse program continues to grow and develop.  The program fields successful teams at USC
high school as well as programs at Fort Couch Middle School for seventh and eight grade young men. The program is structured on the belief in the scholar athlete as both an individual and a team member.  All boys who participate
will be taught the athletic aspects of the game, as well as strong foundations in academics, sportsmanship and teamwork.  The coaching staff is committed to the athletes, encouraging extra curricular participation in clubs and other
teams,  supporting and tutoring for academic success and college planning and preparation.
