Modern Sights For Backwoods Hunting
Red dot, holographic and low magnification reflex sights have some profound advantages for hunters over both iron sights and conventional telescopic units. They have sight patterns that are easier to acquire than most kinds of iron sights and won't be lost against a background of silhouetted branches. You get much better situational awareness with a non magnifying sight which is ultimately like looking down a drinking straw. They really shine in close country hunting for deer and turkey of the kind that predominates in our Eastern and Southern states. These units have a strong military heritage, but manufacturers have gone to the trouble of making civilian hunting versions that lack the night vision compatability of their military units, reducing the price and making it easier to export or travel with them to foreign contries.
Great strides have been made in red dot sight design over recent years. Aimpoint, market leader in red dot sights recently introduced their Micro H-1 red dot sight. This unit, which is parallax free beyond 25 meters has a 4 MoA dot (actually 3.8 MoA) only weighs an incredible 3.7 ounces with a screw operated Picatinny mount. The US Army think enough of this sight's partner, the NV compatible T-1 to trial it in Afghanistan for potential general issue. This will give you an idea how rugged this sight is. You can carry an H-1 in your pack to keep you shooting should your scope fail, or even mount one on top of the scope with a Pictatinny ring adapter to give you an instant close range back-up to your scope. You can use the H-1 on a shotgun for wing shooting too - it is particularly popular for duck hunting in Northern Europe. The H-1 will run for up to 50,000 hours on a single CR2032 battery.
Eotech holographic weapon sights have achieved great popularity with the US military, have been type classified by US SOCOM and are being purchased in large numbers privately by soldiers and airmen. Eotech target the hunting sector with a range of sights that drop some of the miltary features like night vision compatibility and ARMS throw lever mounts to keep them affordable. The hunting models take AA batteries and offer the full range of daylight intensity adjustments to cope with all lighting conditions. One big advantage of this system is that even if only a tiny part of the rear sighting window is visible, you can see the aiming pattern and get your shots on the target. Eotech produce the Eotech 512.A65 in three versions, the 512.A65/1 (Black finish), 512.A65MO (Mossy Oak Obsession finish) and 512.A65RT (Real Tree APG HD finish) to suit different hunting environments.
Trijicon's ACOG sight first surfaced with the Army's Advanced Combat Rifle (ACR) about 20 years ago. The ACR may have come to nothing but ACOG sights went on to take the world's militaries by storm. The TA44SR-10 is a 1.5X16 unit with a red dot in a circle reticle intended for rapid engagement of close targets. It is self illuminated via a fiber optic light source by day and tritium at night, therefore needs no batteries and has no electronics to fail. The TA44, like all ACOGs is designed to fit an M16 carrying handle, but a short TA-60 adapter will make it fit any Picatinny mount and a Weaver adapter is also available. This sight has the advantage of retaining situational awareness whilst offering a small amount of additional clarity of the target. 1.5X magnification has a military following - for example the standard carry handle sight on the Steyr AUG rifle. This tiny 4.9 ounce scope is possibly the ideal wild Turkey sight.

Frequently Asked Questions...
Will the included mounts on a center point ar22 4x32 scope allow it to clear the rear sight on a crosman 2100?
want to buy the center point ar22 4x32 scope to mount on a crosman 2100, but don't know if the included mounts are tall enough to allow the scope to clear the rear sight. has anyone tried this combination? i've read that some have done it on a airmaster 77 which is similar to the crosman, but don't know if the rear sights are the same height.
Answer:
The Crosman 2100 and Remington AirMaster 77 are basically identical rifles, other than the color and name. Crosman makes both on the same machines, one they stamp Crosman, the other Remington.
There is more than one 4x32 scope in the CenterPoint AR22 series, and either will work on your rifle. But, IMO if you can spend the extra, the Leapers 4x32AO "Bug Buster" is a far superior scope. The Leapers 4x32 is parallax adjustable from 3 yards to infinity, while the CerterPoint scopes have the parallax set at either 30 or 35 yards which is basically the limit of the effective range for your rifle.
If/when you trade up, which most airgunners end up doing, the Leapers 4x32 Bug Buster will make a nice addition to almost any air rifle..
I am NOT attempting to talk you out of buying a CenterPoint AR22 4x32, they are nice scopes, all I'm attempting to do is give you options and explain the difference.

This article explains the meaning of AO and why being able to adjust the parallax is important to airgunners.
