Frequently Asked Questions...
whats the equivelent of 4 aaa batteries for a battery pack for a model yacht?
i have realised i put aaa i meant to put aa batteries.
Answer:
Dry cells are 1.5 V each, so four gives 6 V nominal voltage.
Re-chargeable ni-cads etc. are 1.2 V per cell - so you get 4.8 V for four. Most RC gear is fine with this - but the servo speed and current available is less, so the general practice was to make battery packs of 5 x 1.2 V cells - giving 6 V, and all the speed back. The size of the cells physically only relates to the capacity - AAA, AA, Sub C etc.
There are now Li-Ion power packs and charger systems available - at the end of the day as long as the voltage and polarity of the plug are correct your receiver won't care. If it is a cheap model with a molded in battery tray you won't have much choice normally - just use good NiMH AA's at 2500mAh capacity. That's over four times the capacity of the best Sanyo Cadnica's I had in my first RC stuff thirty years ago.

How to Change AAA Batteries
Modern technology offers a vast array of small handheld, battery-operated devices. Many of these gadgets, such as such as TV remote controls, digital voice recorders, or flashlights, require batteries to function. Batteries for these devices come in all shapes, sizes and voltage-generation capacity. The AAA battery is one of the smallest of the common batteries used in most electronics. Changing these batteries requires little skill, and with a fewinstructions anyone can change a AAA battery.
Instructions Things You'll Need:
- AAA batteries
- Small screwdriver (if necessary)
- Small bristle brush (if necessary)
- Step 1
Locate the battery compartment on the electronic device needing new batteries. This is normally on the back or bottom of the device.
- Step 2
Unhinge the battery compartment cover or unscrew with a small screwdriver of appropriate dimension. Most covers utilize one screw that normally a small Phillips head will fit.
- Step 3
Remove the old batteries and discard them appropriately. Notice if any corrosion is present and wipe or brush it away with a small bristle brush, paying specific attention to battery conduction points.
- Step 4
Replace the batteries following the diagram in the compartment or on the back of the compartment cover. This will show which way to place positive and negative ends of the battery appropriately for the respective device.
- Step 5
Recover the battery compartment securely and test the device to ensure proper installation and power generation. Reset the batteries in place correctly if no power is generated initially.
