1997 was a very frustrating season, as high hopes and a strong start
were dashed by a rash of injurys and a hard road heavy schedule. Lost were
Sr Goalkeeper John Loembruno (All Star in 96) to a fractured leg after the
first Baldwin game. Also Sr Defensemen Dave Robinson (All League 96) to a
broken arm in the Quaker Valley game. Both made dramatic returns at home
against Trinity to spark a 18-0 win, and a playoff run that saw a hotly contested
quarter final game with traditional rival North Hills that was played over
two days due to bad weather. Bethel took the game 7-5 behind Tim Duda and
his 6 goals. The season came to an end the next day at North Catholic 5-3.
Bethel took a 3-1 lead in to the 4th quarter, but came unravelled and took
12 minutes of penatlies as The Trojans scored 4 unanswered goals to move
to the Section B championship, which they won (way to go guys) against Shaler
(sorry guys).
Team MVP was awarded
to Sr Attackmen Tim Duda.
The Extra Effort Award
to Sophamore Midfielder Matt Mason.
Rookies of the year
- 1st year player Josh Mason SR Defensemen, and Freshmen
Goalkeeper Toby Chandler.
